Located at the convergence of the Trent and Neuse rivers, historic New Bern is the second oldest town in North Carolina. Once a capital of the North Carolina Colonial government and then the state capital for a short time, New Bern serves as the site of yet another historic event: The first K-20 Distance Learning Conference in North Carolina!

Come celebrate 300 years of history in historic New Bern!In 2010, North Carolina's second oldest town, will be 300 years old! To honor this milestone and our rich history, we’re hosting a year-long celebration and you’re invited. Plan to stay through the weekend following the NCDLA Blended Conference to enjoy several scheduled events. Tryon Palace: A former state capitolNew Bern was originally settled by the Suisse and was named of the capital of Switzerland, Bern. In addition to its wonderful restaurants, shops, and local charm, New Bern is also home to Tryon Palace, the former home of British Governor William Tryon. The palace was completed in 1770, and served as the capitol building until the 1790's. The current building is a replica of the original and is maintained as a historic site and tourist attraction. |
